Will US snatch the Fulbright Scholarship from the Gaza strip?

“Why take chances?” is basically what the US Govt wants to say to the world. 8 students from the Palestine infested Gaza region are going to feel utterly disappointed and probably fall into severe depression for they just lost their Fulbright Scholarship.
According to CNN news

The U.S. government has taken Fulbright scholarships away from eight students in the Palestinian territory of Gaza, citing Israeli travel restrictions imposed on the Hamas-ruled zone, a U.S. official said Friday.

So basically they’re saying that since there is a high risk that these students might not utilize their scholarship because they will most probably not be granted exit visas from Israel, why not redirect the funds to other areas, so that at least some else can make do with them.

The US Govt are and have been engaging in repeated talks with the Israelite ministry to grant these Fulbright Scholars with exit visas, so that they can pursue their higher education in the most prestigious American Universities.

There seems to be a lot of ambiguity regarding what exactly is happening actually. Some seem to say that some of the students have been granted the visas, yet confirmation from Jerusalem cannot be obtained. On the other hand the US government isn’t promising anything to the Fulbright Scholars anything yet.Related articles

  1. Good Post. We must encourage that the Fulbright scholarships continue for students. If not for palestinian students, Israelite students will be fine. Students must also search for additional foreign scholarships at freetoapply.com.

  2. Hmm…its rather unfair to the palestine students that they have to bear the brunt. An educated youth, especially from a prestigious US university ca really serve as a huge inspiration for others from his/her country especially during troubled times.
